Recent News

Tree Felling (1/05/2010)

Three trees on Jubilee Green have recently (April) been felled on Jubilee Green. These trees were identified in a tree survey carried out by the Parish Council late 2009 as needing to be felled. The JGMC requested that the tree trunk sections were retained for use within the new play area design as natural play features. This is why the trunks have been left on Jubilee Green. Construction work on the new play area will begin later this year.

WREN Grant

Great news. We have been successful in securing a grant from WREN for a whopping £50,000. This means the project can now go ahead and is likely to complete this year.

Thank you to everyone who wrote letters of support and/or signed the petition of support for the £50,000 WREN grant application.

We're now also finalising the play area design with Wicksteed. A summary document detailing the budget, funding sources, play equipment we're looking to source and the new play area design is linked below.

Jubilee Green Project Summary.pdf

We have heard back from AVDC that they will be making a grant of £4,500 towards updated play equipment on Jubilee Green. This now significantly strengthens the next application to WREN for £50,000 which has now been submitted and will hopefully form the main source of the funding. We will hear news of the decision in late March 2010.

We have also had 4 designs and quotes back from a number of suppliers, and have selected Wicksteed as the preferred supplier.

Background

Jubilee Green is a communal recreation area in the heart of Wing. Believed to have been acquired in 1978, the green is maintained by the Parish Council for the benefit of all residents.

The green is approximately 100m by 120m (1.2 hectares), and is surrounded by housing on all 4 sides, with busy roads some distance away. The village is fortunate to have such a large open space at its heart.

For many years there has been a children’s play area on the green. The play area is well equipped, with swings, roundabouts, a see-saw, climbing frame, slide, adventure trail, toddler play house and toddler ride ons.

The play area is the only one in the village and is very well used by the younger population of the village. Population statistics estimate that there are some 600 under 15s living in the village, which is about 20% of Wing’s population.
